Who we are
Smart Balance is a narrowly focused company (NasdaqGM: SMBL) with a mission to provide superior tasting, heart healthier alternatives in every category we enter by avoiding trans fats naturally, balancing fats, and/or reducing saturated fats, total fat, and cholesterol.
Our approach to great-tasting, heart healthier foods and beverages
The first Smart Balance® product was our Buttery Spread, based on a special formulation designed to taste great, work well at the table and on the stovetop, and help support healthy cholesterol levels already within the normal range by improving the HDL:LDL ratio through dietary means.*
Our unique, patented blend allowed us to avoid trans fats naturally. Smart Balance® spreads have never contained hydrogenated oils or manufacturer-modified/interesterified oils.
As knowledge about nutrition and its role in healthy living has grown over the years, so have we, as has our approach to creating products. Today we offer delicious spreads, sticks, and even sprays, including versions that add not just ALA short-chain Omega-3 fatty acids, but EPA/DHA long-chain Omega-3s too.
Our goal is to make products heart healthier by improving their nutrition profiles, while retaining their taste and texture.
Our HeartRight® products, for example, include milk and spreads with active plant sterols and long-chain Omega-3 fatty acids.
And we’re not stopping there. We’ve incorporated heart healthier ingredients like ALA Omega-3 fatty acids into our peanut butter, and ALA Omega-3 fatty acids and plant sterols into our light mayonnaise dressing.

*When at least 2/3 of fat intake comes from this product or the Smart Balance™ Food Plan; limit fat to 30% of calories and saturated fats to 10%. Limit cholesterol to 300mg per day. Avoid foods with partially hydrogenated oil. Exercise regularly.
